What are Public and Private IP Addresses?

Blog Introduction: In today’s digital world, it is important to understand the different types of IP addresses. An IP address is a numerical label assigned to each device connected to a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication. This article will explain what public and private IP addresses are and how they are used.

Public IP Address

A public IP address is an address that can be accessed over the Internet. It is used for communication between two or more computers on the Internet. The public IP address is usually assigned by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and can be used to identify a particular device or network. When you access a website, your public IP address is sent along with other information about your connection, so that the website knows where to send its response back to you.

Private IP Address

A private IP address is an internal address that is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.10.1 or any other that can only be accessed within a private local area network (LAN). It cannot be seen by anyone outside of the LAN, which makes it much more secure than a public IP address. A private IP address allows devices within the same LAN to communicate with each other without needing any external connections. It also keeps any data sent over the network safe from prying eyes on the outside.

Conclusion:

To summarize, there are two types of IP addresses – public and private. Public IP addresses are visible over the internet and allow for communication between two or more computers on the internet, while private ones remain hidden within a local area network and allow for communication between devices within the same LAN only. Understanding these two types of addresses will help you stay safe online, as well as make better use of your home or office networks. Thanks for reading!
